Head or tails?
Those famous words where used by the insane super villain Harvey Dent, aka Two Face in the Batman comics. Dude was a partially insane former lawyer/ politician ( depends on who was writing ) who suffered a terrible accident which burnt half his face with acid. And gave him a bad case of PTSD.
In his most recent depiction Harvey was a smart talkin’ politician who tossed a coin whenever he had to make a choice.
It pretty much became his “thing” and everyone knew him for it.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. To protect Batman he turns himself in and gives his coin to Bruce Wayne ( Batman ) for safe keeping. And as he placed the coin in Bruce’s hands, he just said…
I create my own luck
And gave Bruce a knowing wink.
Bruce took a closer look at the coin and realised it had two heads.
Wow. Harvey was creating his own luck.
He wasn’t waiting for chance to dictate what he should do. Or how he would do it.
Instead he used his coin to take charge of what he could.
And this is the same when it comes to email marketing.
Now, wait just a minute. I’m not suggesting you start cheating in your email marketing efforts. That would be as retarded as shooting yourself in the foot then trying to run a marathon…while carrying a gorilla on your back.
What I mean to say is to take control of the factors you can take control of.
You’re not in control of when your prospects read your emails.
You’re not in control of what they read your emails on.
You’re not in control of their mood when they do get around to reading your emails.
All of these are a matter of chance.
If the control freak president of North Korea himself ( whatever his name is ) can’t hope to control the above factors, you don’t stand a chance. But there factors you’re control of you can take advantage of right now.
Factors such as:
Actually making sure you’ve sent the emails.
Making sure your emails are entertaining.
Making sure you told your subscribers to white list you so you at least avoid the spam folder.
Making sure your emails are addictive. So your prospects read them every time to hear what you’re up to.
