I was browing Ye Olde Facebook yesterdat afternoon when I came across one of the most bullshit posts of all time.
The actual post was NOT bullshit but what the post talked about was.
Here’s the scoop:
Sometime in the last two days some of the fraudulent jokesters at CNN where caught recording a fake news story in the UK. Not fake as in, a joke.
I mean fake as in this was supposed to air as real news to fool everyone. And, to run salt into the would somebody on site recorded a video of the whole scandal happening. The fake story was supposed to be about a Pro-Muslim peace protest by a group of Muslim women holding up signs.
Unfortunately NONE of thw eomn on set where protestors.
Look, I have NOTHING against Muslimms and personally I love those guys. But lying to everyone to change our views about them is just plain worng.
This story COMPLETELY killed what little trust I had left towards CNN.
They already crossed my bullshit threshold when thry ran a full story about President Trump taking his family out to dinner… and another story about president Trump getting two scoops of ice cream while everyone else got one. Yes. I’m serious. Not making this up disclaimer.
Now, the problem with lying and using fake news is tenfold in copy and email.
Because sooner or later your customers are going to smell the bullshit and call you out on it. And it only takes ONE incident of the cat being let out of the hat to completely DESTROY your reputation.
This doesn’t destroy just your future copy and claims.
But also everything you had said prior to the bullshit being found out will also lose it’s credibility. All those testimonials you got, all those awards… all that effort you put into building your business will disapeer.
Into thin air.
And all you will be left with is a fire breathing mob of pissed off customers and the FCC ready to cover you in boiling hot tar, chiken feathers and then they’ll sacrifie you to the gods of capitalism and ethical trade during the sunrise for your transgression.
Wait… where was I going with this analogy?
Case in point, don’t bullshit thine customers. For thine customers can sniff bullshit from a mile away.
