Okay, let’s set the record straight, shall we?
So… apparently there’s a general public opinion of me which states I like Japan, and Japanese culture in general.
That’s as incorrect as it can get.
I don’t “like” Japan.
I FUCKING LOVE JAPAN!
In fact, just five years ago I started studying the Japaneses language on my own ( no teacher, we don’t got those here ) and I made a crucial discovery about learning any new language and skill…. even email marketing and copywriting!
You see, when I was learning Japanese there where two possible paths I could have chosen to walk.
Path A: The lazy man’s way out would have involved me taking giant lists of words and stock Japanese phrases, shoving them up my ass… while hoping I could remember them if I ever got into a conversation.
Path B: Which would see me take the long way to mastery. Why? Because instead of focusing on cramming my corrupt brain with words and phrases, I focused on learning what the Japanese language IS…
This meant studying the culture behind the language.
The mindset of the Japanese people.
And generally immersing myself in Japanese media, comic books and pornography until I the pieces finally started coming together. As you might have guessed, I chose Path B. Nothing wrong with Path A but that’s not how Jay rolls.
Now, Path B took me a damn long time and my Japanese isn’t exactly as good as I’d like it to be. However:
Because I studied the Japanese language from the ground up, I don’t have to rely on stock phrases or phrase books… or go through the embarrassing ordeal of whipping out a stock phrase whenever I’m trying to use my sweet tongue to get into the nearest Japanese girl’s panties…
Instead I can actually come up with my own phrases and sentences from the top of my head. A fair percentage of my thoughts ARE in Japanese to keep the skill fresh. So technically instead of becoming a phrase book regurgitation, I became a phrase maker.
And I’ll tell you right now, if you’re learning a language this skill set is gold.
Listen, here’s what this lingual mumbo jumbo has to do copywriting and email marketing…
There are really TWO possible ways to go about figuring out your market
Path A: Where you do some light research and get a few general facts about your market and blindly try to connect the dots. This works if you’re in a hurry and need something that will at least resonate with you ideal customer. It’s not perfect, but at least it’s not a pile of horse shit.
Plus provided you have a decent offer you “might” get away with it ( seriously, internet marketing Ghuruz have been doing this for yearz! )
And then you have Path B: Where you straight up take the time to immerse yourself into your market’s world, and…
Literally become one with your customer
It’s time consuming, hard to pull off in a hurry… and it needs you to put in effort and actually…
Yet it’s also the most effective path. The legends would almost always pick Path B if they had the option.
Dan Kennedy would drive through his target customer’s neighborhoods to get a “feel” for who he was selling to. Legend has it The great Sir Gary Of Halbert ( may he rest in peace ) would call his idea customers and grill them just to make sure he got his messaging right.
Amazing, isn’t it?
But enough of my rambling Japanophillia.
