Wow! Took a walk this morning what I saw left me in awe…
I saw a guy riding a bycicle with the craziest “customisations” I’ve ever seen. He had DVDs on the bycicles’s wheels, an antenae on the handle bars ( even though the bycicle didn’t even have a radio ), and two rear view mirrors like a motor cycle.
His bike looked like it just rolled off the set of Pimp my ride…
At first I thought , “man, that’s one Frankenstine bike right there” and then the truth hit me like a bitch slap on a tuesday morning.
That guy was desperate to express his “individuality”.
I’m serious. Think about it for a second here.
Almost everything in the world is meant to somehow strip us of our individuality and turn us into one of the “faceless masses”. Customising one’s possesions and appearance is just a way for someone to show the word that they’re different.
It’s his way of expressing his need to be acknowledged not as a part of the horde, but as a single unique individual.
Because everyone wants to feel special. Even if that means going over the top to show everyone that they are special. To show everyone that they are a unique individual with their own life and problems.
And how does all this tie into copy and email marketing?
Well, in your emails show that you acknowledge your reader as a unique individual with her own wants and needs and she’ll welcome you into her world.
And her wallet.
It doesn’t take much.
Just saying “you” in your emails goes a long way to building that intimate relationship with your reader. Now:
