Earlier today I came across something in the garden.
Apparently one of dad’s pet chickens laid an egg on a patch of ground I rarely walked on. I knew the chickens liked me but for them to just leave a meal lying there just for me?
This little gift made me realise two things…
1- My breakfast tomorrow is covered if I make a cheese omelette.
2- I’ve grown so used to seeing the scenery at home I would have completely missed the egg if it was laid anywhere else.
As much as I like to think about it, my home is just a blur now.
I’m so used to seeing things where they are I never put THAT much effort into observing my environment when I’m at home.
Because of this I tend to miss most details anyone else looking at the scenery with fresh eyes would notice. This is simply because their brains would be on high alert due to the new conditions they’re in.
As for me?
My brain would be on autopilot… carrying me through the motions as I absentmindedly move around.
Reason why our brains get lazy like this is because we are more adept to sensing changes in the environment. Or to paying full attention in new environments.
This is why I found the egg today.
It was laid under where my dad typically parks his lorry.
Because I RARELY walk around there I was being extra attentive this time round, to avoid stepping on any chicken shit or tripping on a loose stone.
Now, this kind of mental autopilot is a real problem when it comes to researching your market.
When you’re real close to your product and your market everything just becomes a blur. You fail to see all the cool details that would otherwise WOW anybody else into reading your ad.
An idea that would seem totally out of this world to a potential customer… will be as boring as watching a lawyer covered in paint to you.
It’s when the magic is gone and your market has become one big blur… that the ideas stop flowing. This is why it’s crucial to keep looking at your market with fresh eyes avoid the “mental boredom effect”.
Do that, and you’ll be surprised how many golden eggs you’re going to find just lying there waiting for you to use in your emails and ads.
If you want a pair of fresh eyes to analyse your market and your current email funnel to find any golden eggs you’re probably missing… then let’s team up to put your email on steroids.
