A couple of years back I watched this Bruce Willis movie called Surrogates.
Good film. The premise is crazy enough for you to wonder what kind of drugs they where on when they penned the script.
Here’s a 30 second breakdown of the plot:
The people in Surrogates all stay in their homes and never even step outside. Instead they use these extremely lifelike remote controlled robots ( called surrogates unsurprisingly ) which look just like them to live their lives via remote control. End result is that everyone is extremely fat and lazy, including Willis’ character… whose a cop.
Plus social contact is virtually non existent in that world, so the people have the social skills of a drunk badger.
Nobody understand how to relate to another human being anymore
And it’s a crying shame if you ask me.
The scene where Willis’ character has to step outside for the first time is mind blowing when you see how visibly disoriented he is. He is flat out shaken when he actually has to talk to another human being face to face.
This was so rare the police actually had a name for actual people( not their robot surrogates) running around. They where called “surrogates”…
And the funny part?
It’s exactly the same thing when it comes to market research
You’d be surprised how many copywriters and marketers base their copy and emails on assumptions about their markets…without actually taking the time to get on the phone with their customers to hear first hand what they have to say.
Or how many marketers never even bother to do so much as a survey to see if they’re selling to the right demographics because they’re too busy getting drunk on their own Koolaid sitting on their high horses…
The moment they actually do this kind of super deep research and see the error of their ways it will be like a blinding light from the heavens burning into their eyes to punish them for their stupidity…
Before they proceed to hang their heads in shame after seeing how much money they threw into the shitter before pouring gasoline into it and setting it on fire.
Anyways, if you have a reasonably sizeable email list you want to extract their core demographic data and psychoanalysis from, then hit me up over at:
