I don’t usually talk about social media strategy but when I do, it’s because I found something utterly mindblowing.
For example, I was going through my copy of Eugene Schwartz’s Breakthrough Advertising ( again ) looking for answers when I found an interesting quote…
Copy cannot create desire for a product. It can only take the hopes, dreams, fears and desires that already exist in the hearts of millions of people, and focus those already exisiting desires onto a particular product.
You’d be forgiven for wondering what the bloody hell this has to do with facebook, Instagram and twitter of all things. Especially considering this book was written in 1966.
Well, bucko… here’s the scoop.
One of the core ideas in social media ( especially Instagram and Twitter ) is the so called “Hash tags”. I don’t have to explain what they are. But if you’ve been living under a rock this whole time and need a primer on what they are, I’ll explain in a minute.
Moving on, hash tags are what people to find your content.
Unfortunately the mistake some marketers make is trying to “invent” hastags and force them into the market. Hoping the tags will catch on.
That doesn’t work most of the time. Trying to force a hashtag into a market is like trying to create desire for a social trend. Unless you have a marketing budget that would make even the Microsoft executives piss themselves it’s just not possible.
Instead, you should take the currently trending Hashtags your market is using right now. And exploit those tags for massive profits.
It’s faster, more efficient… and less likely to drive you insane.
And remember, just because you have good Social Media engagement doesn’t mean you have bucketloads of customers.
You need a strategy to convert your followers into customers.
You need a game-plan to funnel your followers into an email list and give them a ball gripping followup in their inboxes.
And if you want to make sure your followers are going to make you money once they’re in your email list, then you should join forces with me and get on a quick strategy call.

PS Oh yeah, almost forgot. For those of you who don’t know what a hashtag is… lemme fill you in.
A hashtag is just keyword of sorts used on most social networks to help users find content they like.
Usually putting the proper hashtag on your social media content makes it easier for your target audience to find you.
