Ever heard of authors and content creators getting death threats?
Trust me… it happens.
Once upon a time there was a popular Japanese manga ( comic ) series called Evangelion. Think of it as a cult psychological sci-fi epic.
It was face slappingly popular with it’s fans ( heck, even I still love it ). They followed it every week. Raiding the stores in droves for the official merchandise.
And even came up with their own wild mass guesses of where the plot was going.
And then… The unthinkable happened
The author announced he was permanantly dropping Evangelion and retiring.
He hadn’t even finished the plot.
In fact, he hadn’t even come close to the good part. Everyone was on the edge of their seats waiting for this sci-fi epic to end… and then it got cancelled.
You can guess what an uproar this caused.
The fans where so pissed they where sending death threats to the author. In the mail. Over the phone. Even over fax ( Yes, the Japanese still use fax ). Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone sent him a note and dagger via carrier pigeon too…
These guys protested against the author. They would pitch tents and hold signs outside his home everyday demanding he finish what he started.
