Oh, but I am Captain Jack Sparrow
Those are the words they used to grip me by the balls and wrench me awake…
You see, I went to watch a school play a few years back.
It was a unique retelling of Peter Pan.
After all the bullshit and versions I’d seen, I didn’t think there was anything else they could toss into that classic tale. The story was always gonna stay the same.
But they proved me wrong
Somehow, halfway throught the performance Mutha Fuckin’ Captain Jack Sparrow showed up…out of fuckin’ nowhere and started causing all kinds of hell.
This plot twist had me by the balls.
I mean, it might have been a bunch of primary schoolers doing the acting…but damn this certainly had my attention.
And that says a lot because I was halfway asleep when he finally popped out.
You see, it’s much easier to “create” new ideas by taking older ones, mishing and matching them… and creating something entirely new. Than it is working entirely from scratch to create the “perfect” new thing.
See what they did there?
This is exactly just how some of the best copywriting ideas are created.
Taking proven ideas, concepts and even hooks… matching them up and seeing where you can take them has been proven as an efficeint way to come up with new ideas.
And this strategy works not only on the actual body copy.
It’s even been used for headlines ( arguably the most important part of an ad ), the angle, offer and even the bullets.
Some of the most epic stories used in sales letters have been reused and mixed time and time again.
Because they work.
