You know what’s so funny about your customers?
They’re more likely to believe what you’re saying… if someone else says it to them.
Think about it for a sec.
You can brag all day about your product and how good it is, but everyone is going to think you’re full of shit. And they have a good reason for it too. Everyone is naturally “skeptical” towards the salesman tooting his own horn.
But what if you got someone else to toot your horn for you?
Think it won’t work?
Well, think again.
The art of using other people to tout services and products has been there for quite a while. It’s one of the oldest tricks in the salesman’s book.
We reffer to it as “using testimonials”.
It’s the main reason you see all those late night infomercials with random people proclaiming, and I quote…
“Before I started using the new so called service, my life sucked. I couldn’t get it up, my wife wanted to leave. And my car wouldn’t start in the morning. But ever since I bought and tried out the product, life keeps getting better. My dong grew three sizes…. and my wife doesn’t want to leave me anymore, and I’ve been promoted three times at work this week alone! ”
…okay, okay…well, they may not sound exactly like that.
However, the main idea is clear here. A word or comment from a satisfied customer is worth it’s weight in gold.
Claims aren’t what they used to be anymore
As written by Robert Collier in his book, The Robert Collier Letter Book
We are a credulous people, but we have become so accustomed to hearing every one claim that his product is the best in the world, or the cheapest, that we take all such statements with a grain of salt”
And honest, I can’t disagree with the guy.
Your customers are a sceptical bunch.
If they believed every claim flying their way from every ad, they’d be broke before the end of the day.
They aren’t gonna believe what you have to say about your product no matter how true it is
Because you’re the one who said it.
