Demand. And supply.
Those two words are battered into our heads from the time we’re in school with such force it’s a miracle we aren’t chanting them in our sleep. It’s a simple concept to grasp, yet a tough one to master. However the best implementations of demand and supply are often the simplest.
Take this case for example…
At the local Registrar of Birth here in my home country the government authorities are extremely anal about all submitted documents being photocopies. And the people here are also paranoid about laminating every nation registration document to make sure it doesn’t get ruined.
So imagine the frustration when a mother travels halfway across the country to register her child’s birth, only to find out she needs to walk for a few hours to the nearest print shop and photocopy her national ID before the officials can accept it? Trust me, after spending 3 hours waiting in queue it’s about as fun as drinking a cup of sulphuric acid laced with cyanide.
amidst this chaos, a few enterprising gentlemen saw opportunity
These guys saw the need for a nearby photocopying service so some of them started parking at the gates of the Registrar or Births, hooking up their printers to their cars and charging a premium to print documents right there on the spot.
Sounds like a dumb idea?
Well, think again buddy.
These brilliant fellas are basically living off the money they get from this simple business model. There was a demand, they supplied.
As the great Gary of Halbert once said, one must become a “student of markets”. And keep his/her eyes open to new opportunities where he can cast his lure and reel out massive wads of moolah.
That’s all for today.
Till the next wave of madness…
