While we all know how you must ask for the order in direct response copy…
There are waaay too many ways you can actually screw this step up.
It’s just like what happened to me a few hours ago in my chaotic dating life. I went to meet up with the girl, but the neighbourhood we where meeting in was a maze of roads. I told her where to meet me. But I didn’t tell her exactly how to get there.
Instead, I ended up walking almost 2 kilometers looking for her because she took the wrong road.
Right destination, wrong path. And we where supposed to meet in the middle.
This could’ve been avoided if I gave her clear instructions of where we where supposed to meet. And what time we where meeting.
But no. I was too damn lazy, and I nearly screwed up the meeting. But at least she didn’t rip my head off my shoulders…it was her fault too. I swear.
Oh well…I’m an idiot. But you can benefit from my stupidity…
You see, the same applies to how you ask for the order.
There’s a difference between asking for the order, and telling your prospects exactly how to order.
And I can’t begin to describe how many sales where killed by poor ordering instructions. With instructions so vague and confusing, even a rocket scientist couldn’t figure it out.
The prospect knows he wants to buy. He can feel the urge to yank out his credit card and hand you his hard earned loot. But he doesn’t know how the heck to go about it.
At the very least, your order form and instructions must be idiot proofed. To make sure even a literate chimpanzee could figure them out, and pull them off without a hitch. If you want my help in idiot proofing your copy and close, then hop on over to:
…And lets craft some killer copy, with a solid close even a brain dead prospect can follow.
