Two weeks back I got into a mini internet shouting match with fellow marketer.
The whole thing ended on an good note. I still like and respect the fellow and he’s given me fucktons of good advice. I love that guy ( no homo ) but I still don’t agree with a few points of his argument.
We had mini quarrel after I posted a Status on Ye Olde Facebook… making fun of how Ghuruz rent mansions and expensive cars to create false images of high profile lifestyles to sell a false dream to their prospects.
His argument was that all marketing is deception one way or another and that it’s necessary to do this. THIS I did not agree with.
His argument further went to explain how this was a minority occurrence in the internet marketing world. And yes, I can agree with that to a certain extent.
His argument went on to explain that the reason he did it was to enhance the experience of his seminar goers. I can agree with that. It’s perfectly acceptable to package your services to increase their perceived value.
If you can give someone a good time while they’re working with you and you deliver genuine value then GO FOR IT!
What I do NOT agree with, is trying to portray a false vision of how one lives to sell that same false dream to others.
Now, I know what you’re thinking.
The reason why people do this is “it works”.
“it fucking works”.
Wow…Now, tell me something…
If your excuse for using these deceptive strategies is:
“because it works”, then let’s look at how that excuse applies in other circumstances.
Why do thieves break into people’s homes and steal from them? Because it works?
Why do thugs beat the crap out of you… leave you half dead… and run off with your wallet? Because it works?
Why do terrorists use guns instead of stones to mow down innocent bystanders in the name of a faulty belief? Because it works?
Why do rapists force themselves on defenceless women and steal sexual gratification from them? Because it works? And you cannot argue with me about either of these examples… especially the fourth one. We have enough crime stats to show that THIS SHIT WORKS.
Now, tell me something.
Just because any of this stuff works… does that make it right?
Just because something works does NOT make it right.
Just because something works does NOT make it ethical.
Now, at the end of the day the onus is on you to decide what you’re going to do. If you’re reading my shit that clearly means you’re a smart marketer. That also means you’re going to focus on doing what works.
But, is what you’re doing the right thing?
Is it something you’d be okay with having someone else do to one of your loved ones? Think about it.
That is all.
If you want email marketing strategies that not only work… but are also ethical and socially acceptable then him me up and let’s talk about your business. Go enter your detail here:
And I’ll get back to ya.
Till the next wave of madness… Vae Victis.
